Freelance Opportunities

We work with a small pool of trusted freelancers, including those we’ve worked with before or who come recommended. We’re always keen to connect with local instructors who share our passion for the outdoors.

If you’re interested in joining our freelance team, read on to learn more about the work we do and how to apply.

How to Apply

To be considered for freelance work with OUT ON THE DOWNS, please email staff@outonthedowns.co.uk with:

  • Your CV
  • A short description of the type of work you’re looking for

What Happens Next?

  1. Mailing List – We’ll add you to our staff mailing list and share upcoming job opportunities.
  2. Initial Call – We’ll arrange a short call to get to know you.
  3. Induction – You’ll receive our Staff Induction Handbook with key information.
  4. Verification – Before starting any paid or trainee work, you’ll need to:
    • Complete the induction
    • Provide ID and relevant qualifications (e.g. NGB awards, First Aid)
    • Undergo an Enhanced DBS check (we can assist with this)

Benefits of Working with Us

We offer a range of CPD and team-building opportunities for our freelance staff. If you work at least two outdoor jobs per year with us, you’ll be invited to attend:

  • Free 16-Hour Outdoor First Aid Training (offered annually)
  • Contour Masterclass Workshops
  • Leading in Nature Days

While we don’t cover travel costs, we aim to schedule CPD events around paid work to help minimise expenses.
